2019 SAGINYOGAN FESTIVAL

In celebration of the 58th Founding Anniversary of the Municipality of Alcantara.

Thousands of people visited Alcantara last Thursday to celebrate and experience the 2019 Saginyogan Festival, one of the famous festivals in th\ne province of Romblon. It was attended, not only by the locals, but also the people coming from different parts of the globe also went to witness the celebration.

The Saginyogan Festival is an annual celebration in the Municipality of Alcantara held every 21st of March (Town Fiesta). From the name itself, the festival showcases and displays the abundance of saging (banana) and niyog (coconut) in the municipality.

In this year’s edition, 9 tribes participated and competed for the title. From the colorful, authentic, creative and well-made saging and niyog costumes of the dancers, to the beautiful dance concepts and to the joyful music brought by the drums, trumpets and the native gongs, the Saginyogan Festival never ceases to amaze the public and its spectators.

Tribu Bagsik won their first ever title since the creation of the festival. Followed by Tribu Bonlao who got second place and the defending-champion, Tribu Banwa took third place in the competition.

Special awards for the Saginyogan Festival was also given. The champions got the Best in Costume while the Best in Sound went to Tribu Calagonsao.
